In The News!

A few articles that feature me (directly and indirectly)!  The first was just an entertainment/lifestyle piece by Essence Magazine. The last two are all about trainings I attended to assist people with signing up for affordable health care plans. You may not catch me in the photos for the last two articles, but trust me I'm there! You've just got to look really hard.

Essence Magazine - Street Style Hair: Divas in the District
“Fall is full of fun in the nation's capital. From visiting the monuments on the Mall to grabbing some grub in Georgetown, an adventure awaits at every turn. We hit the streets and found these D.C. divas hopping around town in their stylish strands.”

DC Health Benefit Exchange Authority  - Second Group of DC Health Link Assisters Now Trained to Help Residents Sign Up for Health Insurance
“Nearly 100 DC Health Link Assisters have completed 30 hours of comprehensive training and are ready to help residents use DCHealthLink.com to shop for quality, affordable health insurance.“

NPR - First Step In Health Exchange Enrollment: Train The Helpers
"For the past several weeks, all around the nation, a small army has been preparing to help consumers sort through their insurance options, choose a plan and sign up."

New Job :)

I started my first post-grad job today as the Patient Services Manager at Community of Hope's Marie Reed Health Center!

I am beyond thrilled to start this position. I have been a big fan for the organization since I first learned about it in early 2011.

With the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) and DC Health Link kicking into gear, I'll be plenty busy (and happy) working with health center staff to help patients overcome barriers to care.

Dakia Davis, LGSW

Dakia Davis, Licensed Graduate Social Worker at your service!

I recently received my wall license and certificate after passing the master's level exam for DC. Excited to go out and work with a professional license.

:)

It arrived wrinkled, but hey, it's still valid!

Dakia Davis, MSW

I graduated! Can you believe it? Time really zipped by. My grad school experiences have been so rich and I'm thankful for having had the opportunity to earn a Master of Social Work degree at Howard University!

NOTE: I have lots of photos to share; however, I'm experiencing technical difficulties (backing up your files is so important). I promise to have them up soon!

NASW Leadership

Guess who is now a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) DC Metro Chapter Committee on Nominations and Leadership Identity (CNLI)? In-a-nutshell (CCNLI) conducts nominations and elections for the chapter.

Looking forward to serving the NASW DC Metro Board and encouraging DC-area social workers run for local and national leadership positions in the organization!

Alternative Spring Break - Memphis, TN

Back in March of this year I participated in Howard's Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program. As a team leader for ASB Memphis, TN, I assisted in planning and supervising service activities for students on the program’s health team.

Here' a look at some of the work we did. Also, you may see someone you know (eh hem, me) in the clip!

Memphis is a terrific city and I'd love to visit again someday.
