Catching Up.

Greetings, friends & family.

This post has been long overdue. Right now I'm just focusing on catching up and explaining my lack of posts so I can get back into writing more. Here goes.

Sadly, my older sister Daria passed away in February. She was a major reason why I came up here and one of my biggest champions. Thanks to everyone for reaching out to my family.

As for the rest of the semester, though difficult, I made it through (with an A average)! Here's what I've been up to:

I saw Michelle Obama! For real, y'all. The First Lady paid a visit to campus to speak about international studies and encourage students to take advantage of study abroad programs.
my ticket to see FLOTUS!

not the best pic (i have an older blackberry), but she's there on stage somewhere.

another not so great pic, but still proof that i was there!

Lately I've been reading Toni Morrison's Paradise.

My book in grassy area near White House.

There's always something to see/do in this city. Seems like just taking a walk is an adventure.

had an internship near national mall area. washington monument in the background.

mm mm. jamaican veggie plate!

program honoring African American Civil War Veterans at memorial on Vermont Ave. and U Street.

Performers at African American Civil War Memorial

The White House!

The White House Garden!

I FINALLY saw Talib Kweli in concert.

I turned 28. Mama got me a nice card:

Turns out I love basketball games!

Had a bit of snow this winter. It wasn't really pretty, just gross!

That's all I got for now. No school or work for the rest of the summer. Going to spend time with family and getting to know DC more. Catch ya later.

I'm here!

Happy New Year.

It's official, y'all.  I'm actually at Howard in DC.  Woo!

Moving process went well.  I like the apartment and my roommate. All set to go.

Check out my student ID and metro cards:

The weather isn't the worst, but it's not the best either.  I don't like how gray it's been, so I'm hoping for a little more sun soon.

Really looking forward to building a career in  advocacy work.  Headed to a Getting Your Point Across: A Symposium on Effective Messaging, Policy, and Advocacy sponsored by WIN tomorrow.  The keynote speaker is Jessica Arons, Director of Women's Health and Rights at the Center for American Progress.  I'm pretty excited. (Again, woo!)

OK.  So that's it. I'm here. Stay tuned.
