Hello, friends! Happy Holidays, etc.
I went to the HUSSW grad school orientation earlier this month and now I'm all set. We (family and I) will be moving on January 6th! So, next time you hear from me, it'll probably be in 2011 after I settled in and become a Bison for real!
Wish me luck.
Happy New Year,
Kia

Certified.
It's here! My grad certificate for nonprofit management. It arrived while I was in DC. Check out the (fuzzy) proof!
Elections and blogging
Right after coming home from my DC trip, I returned to work and prepared right away for election madness! I served as a precinct official during last week's mid-term election. That means for like, 12-13 hours I was "stuck" inside precinct 01-23! I enjoy it, though. Glad to have learned so much about what it takes to make sure folks can cast their ballots and have their votes counted.
In other voting related news, I blogged about the elections for Choice USA. This was my first post as a part of Choice USA's "new" blog team (I was a member of the old one). Choice USA has a new blogging approach. Each day now has an assigned theme and assigned bloggers. My postings on reproductive rights and policy go up on Mondays. Howard Visit Pics!
I'm back from my DC trip. Aside from a few administrative struggles, I enjoyed my visit to the campus.
Instead of making a separate album, I'm just going to post the pics here:

DC In 5 Days!
This is my attempt to start posting more. There haven't been many DC-related happenings and I don't like to post just 'cause. Now, I have some pretty exciting stuff to write about!
First, I'm headed to DC this weekend to visit the campus and sort out some administrative things. Then, I'm going to look for a place to stay. I've had some great conversations with a nice house manager in the Brookland neighborhood and I'm looking forward to viewing the house during this trip. I also get to hang out with my friend Joy!
So, there you go. Updates and pics from my "adventure" to come!

New Photos!
Hi there, folks! Been a minute (more like a month), I know. I finally got those 4th of July pics up. The album is linked on the Photos and Videos page.
I've also updated my resume if you want to check it out.
I'm headed to DC sometime in October to visit Howard and get ideas for places to stay.
That's all for now.
Later.

Update: Between homes
Pardon the delay between posts. I haven't really been up to anything "blog-worthy" lately. But, here's a wrap-up of what's been going on:
- 7/15/10 - My last day at work in Greensboro.
- 7/24/10 - Raleigh Relocation Phase I. Heavy furniture and most of my clothes made it safely to Raleigh.
- 7/25/10 - I moved some items from car to house (hey, progress is progress).
- 7/26/10 - Headed back to Greensboro to finish packing kitchen and clean up apt. This is my least favorite part about moving out. No matter what I do, there's always something left to pick up, wipe or vacuum.
- 7/27/10 - Had a wonderful lunch with women from my old job. We went to the Olive Garden, one of my favorite restaurants. I have to share a pic of what I had:
Portobello mushroom-filled ravioli in a creamy smoked cheese and sun-dried tomato sauce. |
(It was delicious, by the way.)
There was an After Gateway board meeting scheduled for tonight, but power to the building was interrupted due to a storm. No worries, I get to see my AGI friends on Thursday at the prom!
Once I return -- sometime between today and this Friday -- and get settled in I'll have lots more to post from Raleigh. :)
Oh, and I'll be posting a few pics from my Fourth of July trip. Stay tuned.

It's finally final.
I gave notice at work last week. July 16 will be my last day at work here in Greensboro. I didn't have too long to dwell on it as I spent my July 4th vacation in Virginia, D.C., and Maryland with a few friends.
We walked around the capitol area, saw the White House and enjoyed some fireworks in the District. We also enjoyed excellent service at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Alexandria, VA. In Maryland we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Democratic Republic of Congo by attending a couple soccer games, snacking on delicious Congolese treats from the grill, and dancing at a few concerts. I've never slept so little in a 4 day/3 night time period, but it was totally worth it.
Returning back to Greensboro was quite the wake up call. I have a bit over a week left at work, and so much to wrap up before my last day. I'm confident I can get it done.
It's all bittersweet, but I really am happy knowing that I'll be starting work in Raleigh soon (I go for "training" this weekend).
Now all I need to do is finish packing. Yeah, I know. Good luck with that, right?

Announcements
This is short post, but I just wanted to let folks know that I'm working on "formal" announcements for my grad school acceptance/departure from Greensboro/return to Raleigh. They're looking pretty good thanks to Vista Print.
Let me know if you'd like one and I'll mail it off soon.

Grad Certificate!
I've finally received word from UNCG that I have been awarded my graduate certificate for nonprofit management!
Interesting that I get this news the day I start working on this blog. Pretty fitting, I think.
